Principal Data Scientist

Founder and chief visionary, Ștefan is the driving force behind the company. He loves to keep his hands full by participating in finding opportunities to exploit data, in developing ML models, and in automating data driven decision strategies. He earned his PhD. in mathematics at the Univ. of Iowa and spent his postdoc at the Computational Biomedical Lab of the Univ. of Houston . He accumulated more than 15 years of experience in industry research in the field of data science.

His expertise covers applications of AI from dynamic pricing in B2B, optimal and safety stock calculation for WMS, forecast of time series (e-commerce demand, bond prices, accounts payable), going through document classification, automated information extraction, and predictive maintenance. He thinks every data set tells a story and can be exploited via AI to generate added value.

Josue Aduna, MSc - collaborator

Josue is a social data scientist​ with experience in the application of Machine Learning/Statistical methods to describe, visualize, estimate and gain insight into complex use cases, contributing to international conferences on statistics (uRos 2019 RO, Statistiktage 2019 CH, eRum 2020 IT, uRos 2021 RO). He is interested in delivering value with data through innovation, research, decision-making support and data-driven management. Vlad-Mihai Drăgan, MBA - collaborator

Finance Data Scientist

Vlad is currently a Data Scientist specialized in forecasting solutions using artificial intelligence. He has worked for Fortune 500 companies as a Data Scientist, is currently an entrepreneur in the AI sector and an Adjunct Professor at Transilvania University (Brasov). He has graduated both his Bachelor and Master at Aarhus University (Denmark), and he is now finalizing his PhD with a focus on AI and Finance.
He has hands-on experience in building machine learning models in R for:
• Financial and Supply Chain forecasts like P&L, Cash Flow and Demand
• Safety Stock Optimization
• Hierarchical Timeseries
• Dashboard creation (RShiny, PowerBI and VBA)

Gabriel Pelmuș, MSc - collaborator

 Senior Software Engineer, Data Scientist

Gabriel is a Software Engineer specialized in machine learning based solutions for information extraction from scanned documents. Recently (2021), Gabriel has graduated from the Masters in Integrated Informational Business Systems.

He has hands-on experience in NLP applications (sentiment analysis, information extraction, text classification), back-end development with .NET, SQL and NoSql, front-end development using Angular and Bubble.io, process automation using Blendr.io, SharePoint administration and development.

 

Andrea David, MSc  - collaborator

Front-End Web Developer, Associate Data Scientist

Andrea is a junior independent information technology consultant in the field of data analysis, specifically front-end development and data science. Andrea has written research projects about artificial intelligence, machine learning, and suitable databases for data science, indicating her passion for the field.

She has experience in designing and developing MVPs, rebuilding websites with responsive UI, and assisting with blog and site designs. She has a native ability for design thinking and is proficient in content writing, editing, and documentation. Andrea's university studies and business management experience have given her skills in management, administration, finance, and accounting, which are useful in data analysis projects. She has also practiced project management and leadership skills through her social and environmental volunteering experience, while her medical knowledge can be an advantage in health data projects. 

Sebastian Deaconu - collaborator, 

Front-End Software Engineer, Cloud DevOps

Sebastian is a software development specialist with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the Transilvania University of Brașov. He began his career as an entrepreneur creating MVPs, where he focused on automation and digitization with a design mobile first and accessibility approach. Sebastian also provided consulting and software development services in web application development. He is skilled in full-stack development with MVC frameworks, moving servers to other infrastructures, cloud technologies, and data-related tasks. Sebastian's experience includes setting up and configuring virtual servers, creating an S3 management application, and configuring front-end applications on S3 and Azure Cloud. He is proficient in front-end technologies such as Angular, React, and Vue, and has experience working with data, such as managing relational databases and building data-driven applications for industrial airports and finance-banking domain. Sebastian also understands and designs APIs. 

Vlad Popescu, PhD - collaborator

Principal Data Scientist, IoT

Vlad received the M.Sc. degree in electronics and computer engineering and the Ph.D. degree in telecommunications from the Transilvania University of Brasov, Romania, in 1999 and 2006, respectively. In 2000, he was with the University of Malmo, Sweden, specializing in multimedia applications for four months. From 2001 to 2002, he was a Research Fellow with the Technical University, Aachen, Germany, where he finished the experimental part of his Ph.D. studies on wireless communication in underground environments from 2004 to 2005. Since 2009, he has been a Visiting Professor with the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University of Cagliari, Italy. Since 2000, he has been an Associate Professor with the Department of Electronics and Computers, Transilvania University of Brasov. He also collaborates close with the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University of Cagliari both on research and didactical level. His main research topics of interest are telecommunications, cognitive radio systems, multimedia applications, and data acquisition. He published more than 80 research papers in peer reviewed journals and international conferences. He has hands-on experience with radio broadcasting systems, software-defined-radios, IoT devices and data acquisition systems. Vlad is member of IEEE BTS, IEEE VTS and IEEE AES and is the chair of the IEEE BTS Chapter in Romania.

Lucian M. Sasu, PhD  - collaborator

Principal Data Scientist, Deep learning

Lucian is currently associate professor at Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, Transilvania University of Brasov. He got his B.Sc. and M.Sc. from Faculty of Sciences, Transilvania University in Brasov, in computer science. His Ph.D. thesis was defended in 2007 at Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, same university. His research targets artificial intelligence, machine and deep learning, and probabilistic models. He published more than 20 research papers in peer reviewed journals and international conferences.

He has hands-on experience with multivariate time series forecasting through machine and deep learning models, classification and regression on IoT and industrial data, developing and integration of Computer Vision models, and data-driven medical recommendations. He is interested in both fundamental and applied research, starting with data cleansing and up to model deployment in specific environments. 

Cătălin Maican, PhD - collaborator

Senior DevOps

Catalin is a highly accomplished academic who currently holds the position of full-professor at the Faculty of Economic Sciences and Business Administration at Transilvania University of Brasov. His research primarily focuses on behavioral sciences, particularly within the realm of economic sciences. Throughout his academic career, Catalin has demonstrated a strong commitment to advancing his field of study, and this is evidenced by his prolific publication record. He has published more than 40 research papers in peer-reviewed journals and international conferences, which have contributed significantly to the academic literature in his area of expertise (https://scholar.google.ro/citations?user=Jcq6-IQAAAAJ&hl=ro).

 In addition, Catalin has also developed expertise in the area of software development. He has experience as a full-stack developer, and has played a key role in architecting and developing applications for his university. He is particularly skilled in using and programming relational databases and back-end development.

Bogdan Budescu, MSc - collaborator, CEO Iddo Software

Senior Data Scientist, Signal Processing, Deep learning

Bogdan is currently founder and CEO at Iddo Software, a company specialized in applications of Machine Learning and Computer Vision, with a focus on the design, implementation, training and optimization of custom neural networks architectures and other algorithms for tasks that involve making sense of data. In 2011 he got his MSc degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, with a specialization in Embedded Electronic and Communication Systems from Transilvania University of Brasov, the same alma mater where he received his BSc in Computer Science in 2009.

He has hands-on experience from research to deployment of Computer Vision applications using Deep Learning across multiple verticals. His solutions are used in Healthcare (Medical Imaging), Indoor Navigation (Visual Odometry and 3D Object Mapping), Sports (tracking the evolution of fitness for regular gym-goers). Lately he expanded his portfolio of ML applications most notably to customer intent prediction using web tracking data and to  profit maximization for Trading Algorithms, among others.
